BRODERICK

Grace gasps when I slide my salve-covered tail inside her, but her body relaxes in an instant. The salve already working its magic. I’m familiar with the product. A more specific salve would work better, and I make a mental note.

“I should have warned you,” I say.

She squirms deliciously as my tail coats her inside walls with the salve. “Mm, yes, you should have.”

Grace sighs and some of the tension in my own body leaves. This after part of sex is one of my favorites. Ensuring that she’s taken care of. Usually, it’s Elliot I spoil. I’m a little more demanding with him because he likes it and can physically take it. I’m sure that Grace and I will get to know each other’s limits in time.

I pull my tail from her and press the pads of my fingers to the soft folds of her. Her pretty opening does look a little redder and swollen than it should, but the tension falls from Grace’s body with each touch.

“That feel better?” I ask.

Grace blinks slowly at me, looking dazed.

“Hm, yes.” She shakes her head. “I need to get up before I fall asleep. You wore me out.”

I laugh. “We wore each other out.”

It isn’t a lie, going slow and working myself inside her tightness had taken energy and willpower. I could do with a bath, a cuddle, and a nap, in that order. But Grace needs some time and I need to be getting back.

Elliot is going to be worried about our little witch. This morning had upset him even if Grace said she and he spoke.

But Elliot isn’t my only responsibility now.

“Do you want me to stay?” I ask.

I have a sense of Grace enough to know how she’s going to answer, but she could surprise me. I kind of wish she would. To sleep with her in my arms would be delightful.

Grace freezes and I keep from sighing in disappointment.

“It’s not that I don’t want you to,” she says, somehow seeing my disappointment anyway. “It’s just everything has been happening so fast and I need” —she makes some hand gestures trying to find the words— “to take some time to think about why I reacted so poorly this morning.”

I run my claws through her hair and her lashes fall in bliss.

“Sweet witch, I’ll give you all the time you need. I’ll pack up.” I drop a kiss to her forehead.

I’m in the living room, dressing, finished packing away the tools I’d brought for the door when Grace comes out in the robe she’d worn last night in the hallway. The beast in me wants to rip it off her and see if she’s wearing another nightdress that makes her look like a treat, but I push the need down.

Her brow is furrowed, her eyes sad.

“Hey,” I say, cradling her cheeks in my hands. “What’s this?”

Grace shakes her head. “I feel bad for kicking you out.”

I laugh, no doubt that’s part of it, but the distress tastes different.

“Don’t,” I say. “You’ve been through a lot lately.
